Sivia Harding is a local designer, renowned for her beautiful beaded knit designs. Her work has been published in many books and magazines, and can also be found all over the internet.

“Like bodies of water emerging from a single spring, the panels of this shawlette flow effortlessly from a few cast on stitches at center back. The simple garter stitch sides and borders combine elegantly with beaded lace, and additional increasing at the center panel provides for a wonderful fit. Beads are placed with the crochet hook add-as-you-go method.”

She will instruct you on Cat Bordhi’s fabulous moebius cast on, as well as, Jeny’s Super Stretchy Bind Off, both techniques required to create this wonderful Moebius Necklette!

Since discovering and using this cast on, Nadine has made numerous little scarves just big enough to go over the head and adorn the neck. The moebius twist adds a simple, yet classical touch to any accessory.

Cathy is a beginning knitter on her way to turning pro. Her Autumn Oak comes alive with its flowing branches and playful clusters of leaves. The hat she just whipped up out of River Twist from Mountain Colors, creating a pattern to fit her needs–very adventurous and creative! We are looking forward to seeing what Cathy will come up with next!

Comfy Sock by Earlene Brown

Earlene knit this lovely sock out of Petals Socks from Universal Yarns. Inspired by the softness of fresh petals, Universal combined fine merino wool and angora to give this yarn its incredible softness, strength and warmth. Plus, the yarn in machine washable! Nicely done Earlene and thank you so much for sharing!

Below we have listed a brief description of each of the workshops:

#1. Matching Your Cast-On and Bind-Off to Your Project
Saturday, October 22nd from 10:00am-12:00pm

Go beyond a basic backward loop cast-on and learn the long-tail, provisional, cable and knitted methods. In addition, we’ll cover binding off your stitches while maintaining a knitting pattern. Learn the 3-needle bind-off for smooth seams, the yarn-over bind off for toe-up socks and binding off with a crochet hook.

#2. Increasing and Decreasing – Beyond the Basics
Saturday, November 12th from 10:00am-12:00pm

Learn the various methods to increase and decrease your stitches and learn when and why each of these methods are used in a particular pattern. Right  and left slants, increase between stitches, increasing in established stitches and more.

#3. Fix it & Finish it Techniques
Saturday, December 10th from 10:00am-12:00pm

Have projects that need help? Trying to get projects done by Christmas and run into problems? Bring them in and learn how to fix the problem.

#4. Continental Knitting
Saturday, January 14th from 10:00am-12:00pm

Learn a different method of knitting that is not only efficient, but can reduce
the “wear & tear” on your wrists and hands.

#5. Reading Knitting Charts
Saturday, February 11th from 10:00am-12:00pm

Learn how to use knitting charts successfully and add more versatility to your knitting. A general overview of chart reading, understanding how a pattern repeats with in a chart, and tips for keeping track of your progress. *Needed skills for “lace” knitting.

#6. Fixing Mistakes in Your Knitting or “Why Does It Look Like That”
Saturday, March 10th from 10:00am-12:00pm

Learn to confidently undo and fix your knitting without having to completely restart your project. Undoing stitches, picking up dropped stitches, turning twisted stitches and identifying incorrect stitches will all be covered.

#7. Beading & Knitting
Saturday, April 14th from 10:00am-12:00pm

Add a little sparkle to any knitted project with beads. You will learn two
methods of this technique and in the process brighten up your knitting!

#8. Seaming Your Finished Knits
Saturday, May 12th from 10:00am-12:00pm

Learn a variety of different techniques to join your finished pieces together including mattress stitch and setting in sleeves. The Kitchener stitch, also called Grafting will be included as well.

Kathleen has requested that students bring the following materials for this

#9.  Customize a Shawl in Any Weight
Saturday, June 9th from 10:00am-12:00pm

With a modified triangle design, learn to incorporate any stitch pattern into
the back panel of a shawl in any weight of yarn.

Marina, from Rozetti, is a fun and bright webbed ribbon yarn perfect for showstopping scarves and shawls! Check out this video to learn how to easily knit this long, luscious scarf out of one skein of Marina!

"Sprout" color #4304

Spring is in full bloom, bringing with it a desire for lighter fibers and summer styles.

Looking forward to Oregon’s tepid summer evenings, Lieanne was inspired to knit a raglan cardigan with eyelet details and bell edged sleeves that she found in CEY’s booklet “Seaside.”

She chose to make her project using “Sprout,” an eco-friendly, 100% organic cotton yarn from Classic Elite’s Verde Collection. Since “Sprout” is a heavy-worsted to chunky-weight yarn, it knits up super quick! We are all excited to see her finished “Lobster Cove” cardigan!

  Kathleen is happily knitting away on version of Knitting Pure & Simple’s “Girls Cap Sleeve Cardi Vest” that she has altered for her adorable daughter, Mellie. Her yarn choice was, “Coast,” an all-season wool/cotton blend fiber from Tahki Yarns. When you feel the knit fabric, it almost feels like suede! Kathleen explains that in order to make fittings more comfortable for her daughter, she uses salvage yarn in-place of stitch holders for the arm holes. This allows Mellie to try on the work in progress without getting poked or pinched by a regular holder. Kathleen suggests using a contrasting color of salvage yarn in order to better see all your off-needle stitches. So far, the vest has only taken 3 balls of Coast, but Kathleen has a fourth ball waiting to be work-up into the cap sleeves and collar. We can’t wait to see the finished project!

Our students (and instructors) at All About Yarn continue to be sources of inspiration and joy here at the shop. They have been knitting up a storm and have completed some fabulous projects we’d like to share with you.

The first comes from a new knitter, Alisa, who decided to create a cozy hat for her very first project. She used Berroco’s “Sundae” for her main color and the lovely “Aquarella,” from Malabrigo, for her fun fuzzy filler. As you can see, both Alisa and her teacher Betty were very pleased with the final outcome.

This verdant vest is the first garment that Roxie, an accomplished knitter, has ever made for herself and we think she did a fabulous job!

She created this lovely pull-over from a pattern she’d wanted to make for years. Before starting her vest however, Roxie tested out the stitch designs by using them to create scarves. If you look closely, the garment features multiple stitch designs that make this vest a real work of art.

Roxie’s stylish vest is a good reminder to all knitters, that we should take time to make personal projects in addition to all the gifts we make for our friends and family members.

Patsy decided to knit a pattern from Jenny Watson’s second “Queensland Collection,” which features designs inspired by the lovely surroundings of the Yorkshire Dales.

Patsy created her stunning waistcoat using Cascade’s “128 Superwash,” a bulky merino wool that is super soft, machine washable and quick to knit!
