In a joint effort with the Salvation Army SAFES House, located in downtown Portland, All About Yarn set out in early November to collect 55 hats and/or scarves for the battered and abused women that live there. If you are not familiar with Portland’s SAFES House, otherwise known as S
helter, it provides a safe and welcoming place for homeless women. Not only does the SAFES House offer these ladies shelter, but they also provide food, a shower, guidance and a friendly face. For more information about this wonderful organization, click HERE
to check-out their website.
When the SAFES House came to the owner of All About Yarn, RaNaye, with the idea, she immediately loved the project and started gathering up beautiful yarn to donate. She set-up a “knit-an-inch” basket, which encouraged students, staff and customers to sit for a minute and knit an inch on a scarf. It was wonderful to see all the donations pouring in from customers, students and staff.
Well, due to the generosity of you all, we were able to not only meet our goal of 55 items, but we nearly double it–WOW! We send out a heartfelt “thank you” for all your time and effort making not only hats and scarves, but mittens as well! You helped bring a bit of warmth to the bodies and hearts of the women at the SAFES House–a much-needed gift during this season–THANK YOU! The photos you see here are all the wonderful hats, scarves and mittens donated to the SAFES House this Christmas!
