RCYC Mystery Knitting

Attention all knitters, crocheters, Portland, Oregon yarn shop fans, folks coming to the 2014 Rose City Yarn Crawl, and anyone who likes a good mystery-along!

We are excited to announce that, as a part of the 2014 Rose City Yarn Crawl, there will be both a Mystery Knit-along AND a Mystery Crochet-along. We have teamed up with two fabulous local designers,  Michele Bernstein the knitter and Laurinda Reddig the crocheter, and we could not be happier with what they have come up with for us. Two very different and very Portland designs. The patterns are being sold through Ravelry, but even if you’re not a member, you can purchase them and get updates. If you’re not a member, you may want to consider joining – it’s a fantastic resource for all crafty folk.

The Knitty (or Crochet-y) Gritty:

  • Presales of the patterns have already begun, to give you plenty of time for swatching, and picking your color choices!
  • Both -alongs will begin in January 2014.
  • Below you will find links to the yarns All About Yarn is recommending for each, which you can purchase either in-store, or online.
  • We will be taking a group picture at the Wednesday night reception before the crawl (more info to follow), so make sure to get your tickets to the Yarn Ball as well!
  • Oh, and did we mention PRIZES?!?!?! Yeah, we will have those, too.
  • Not in Portland? No worries – you are welcome to Knit-along with us! (You are also very welcome to come to Portland for the 2014 RCYC, which is Feb. 27 – March 2, 2014) Special discounted rooms for 2014 Crawlers at the downtown Red Lion Inn.

So, get your needles and hooks polished, clear your calendar, and get ready to join in a Rose City Yarn Crawl Mystery this January! Final clues will be released with enough time to bind off, block and wear to the 2014 Rose City Yarn Crawl.

All About Yarn is using the following yarns to make these wonderful mystery patterns come to life:

For the knit pattern we are recommending Panda from Wolf Creek Wools, a fantastically soft sock yarn, composed of a merino/bamboo/nylon blend. It comes in a stunning color palette and has a lovely drape–perfect for shawls or a luxurious pair of socks!

Panda

For the crochet-along we are recommending La Jolla from Baah!, a beautifully hand painted finger-weight yarn with a color palette that focuses on sophisticated color combinations inspired by nature. Each skein has ample yardage for a scarf, a pair of soft cozy socks or a small lacy shawl. You will LOVE working with and wearing this beautiful yarn!
