Wow—what a weekend! We had such a fabulous time meeting and chatting with all the wonderful fiber lovers that visited us during the crawl. Thank you all for making this such an enjoyable event–we hope to see you all again soon!Super Cupcake CHIC Knits

We also wanted to thank Bonne Marie Burns, of CHIC KNITS, for spending Friday afternoon with us here at the shop with her gorgeous collection of patterns. Bonne was such a joy to talk with and gave wonderful advice to our crawlers–we can’t wait to have her back again! For those of you unfamiliar with Bonne Marie’s work, she is a multi-talented knitwear designer with a background in fashion and graphic design. Bonne’s Super Cupcake pattern (on the right) is just scrumptious–isn’t it!? To check out more of her sassy modern hand knit designs click HERE.

Another big thank you goes out to Deborah Hopkinson, author of KNIT YOUR BIT, for spending part of her Saturday with us signing books and greeting young and old readers alike. Deborah is an award-winning author of more than 40 books for young readers. Her latest title, KNIT YOUR BIT, is based on a real-life Knitting Bee that took place in Central Park in 1918. This entertaining and informative historical fiction book provides a fascinating glimpse into America’s home front during WWI and highlights an important piece of knitting history. This book is perfect for young knitters just starting to learn the craft, as well as veteran knitters and history buffs alike.

We also wanted to congratulate our three Rose City Yarn Crawl raffle winners: Reid Worley (not pictured) was the recipient of All About Yarn’s $20 gift card, and Barbara Creviston and Brian Sell were the recipients of All About Yarn’s amazing 2013 Rose City Yarn Crawl first prize baskets! I love their HUGE smiles!

October 14th was national “I Love Yarn Day” and we had a wonderful time here at All About Yarn celebrating it with all of you that came in to share and knit with us! It was great fun and very inspirational seeing all the beautiful projects you all brought in to show-and-tell. Check-out the images below to see what local knitters have been working on this year!

We also wanted to congratulate Lynne Freeman, our raffle prize winner, who went home with a beautiful basket full of this year’s pattern books! The basket and books were generously donated by Lantern Moon and Classic Elite Yarns.

Whimsical Felted Bag by Ann Culter

Ann made her bag out of Lamb’s Pride–a wonderful felting wool with a beautiful range of colorways. Check out her cute little snail and swirling pond, complete with flowering lily pads. Nicely done Ann and thank you so much for sharing!

Holly-Brown Acrylic Hat by Alice Knox

A Lovely Grey and Multicolor Felted Bag by Alice Knox

Alice Knox brought in a few projects to share with us and she did a fabulous job on them all. The two white hats will make some little girl very cute and happy this spring. I especially LOVE Alice’s felted bag–the color combos with the pattern look fantastic! Thanks for sharing Alice!

Beautiful "Autumn Oak" Felted Bag by Cathy Neary

Cathy Neary's River Twist Hat

Cathy is a beginning knitter on her way to turning pro. Her Autumn Oak comes alive with its flowing branches and playful clusters of leaves. The hat she just whipped up out of River Twist from Mountain Colors, creating a pattern to fit her needs–very adventurous and creative! We are looking forward to seeing what Cathy will come up with next!

Comfy Sock by Earlene Brown

Earlene knit this lovely sock out of Petals Socks from Universal Yarns. Inspired by the softness of fresh petals, Universal combined fine merino wool and angora to give this yarn its incredible softness, strength and warmth. Plus, the yarn in machine washable! Nicely done Earlene and thank you so much for sharing!

2011 Portland Yarn Crawl

We are excited to announce that All About Yarn is participating in the second annual 2011 Portland Yarn Crawl! The Crawl takes place the first weekend in March, which will be Friday, March 4th through Sunday, March 6. Since this is an all weekend event, we will be open Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

All About Yarn’s Crawl Hours:
Friday, March 4th: 10am-5pm
Saturday, March 5th: 10am-5pm
Sunday, March 6th: 10am-5pm

If you are unfamiliar with what a Yarn Crawl entails, it is a FREE event meant to “acquaint all fiber enthusiasts and artists with regional independent retailers and the companies that supply and distribute the yarns and accessories they carry. This is done by creating a self guided itinerary for the exploration of participating stores over the course of a weekend.” *Portland Yarn Crawl

This year 20 local shops are participating and at each shop you visit you will have a chance to enter into a raffle drawing for a lovely basket full of fiber-tastic goodies!

All About Yarn will be offering the following fabulous promotions and discounts during the 2011 Portland Yarn Crawl:

  • a large selection of discounted yarns up to 50% off
  • daily in-store drawings Friday, Saturday and Sunday
  • FREE surplus patterns and magazines, while supplies last
  • our “Sample Sale” starts Friday, March 4th at 10am and will feature a selection of our lovely hand-knit shop samples
  • a special FREE GIFT for any shopper that spends $50 or more!

Not only will you be able to enjoy the raffle drawings and savings offered during the Crawl, but there will also be a cowl themed Scavenger Hunt with one lucky winner! Each of the participating shops will have a special cowl on display with a specific number attached to it. Once you have visited all the shops and collected all the numbers, you will be able to email your list to The Portland Yarn Crawl people at: msoong@rocketmail.com. If you have correctly identified each shop’s cowl, you will be entered into the Scavenger Hunt drawing giving you a chance to win a fabulous prize from the Crawl’s wonderful sponsors!

Good luck to all those participating in the drawings and scavenger hunt! We look forward to seeing new and familiar faces alike–come join in the fun!
