Kathleen's Felted Bag from Previous Year

This class has become an annual event at the shop due to its popularity! This year All About Yarn will be hosting two separate “Live Oak Needle Painting” seminars. The first class will be held on April 28th and the second will take place May 5th; both classes are from 10am to 4pm and only cost $115. Your class fee includes the following: a seat in this fantastic class, the “Live Oak” felted purse pattern, a roving felting kit (your paint), and all the inspiration and instruction you can glean from your talented instructor Kathleen Fajardo. During the all-day seminar you will focus on creating your very own unique and personalized Live Oak purse.

We are announcing the classes early, so those interested will be able to pick up their supplies and knit the prerequisite bag before the seminar. We recommend a minimum of 2 weeks to knit and felt your bag. When you sign up you will be given a pattern to create the canvas(knitted purse) for your Live Oak masterpiece.

If you are already on the waiting list, your spot isn’t secure until you have registered and paid the class fee. Space is limited (only 10 seats per seminar), so if you would like to join us this year, please call or stop by today to reserve your spot.

Check out Kathleen’s canvas (image on right) for this year’s Live Oak purse. I love the organic ebb and flow of her colors, which create the impression of rolling hills at twilight–beautiful! I can’t wait to see what she paints on her bag!

All About Yarn is excited to finally offer Sivia’s patterns to our customers, Confluence Shawlette is just one of many we now carry. Here’s what the designer has to say about her lovely pattern:

The simple garter stitch sides and borders combine elegantly with beaded lace, and additional increasing at the center panel provides for a wonderful fit. Beads are placed with the crochet hook add-as-you-go method.”

• 420/440 yards of Fingering/Lace weight yarn; shop sample was done in Breathless by Shalimar
• Circular needle, US #6/#3 in 32” length

Salvation Army SAFE House Christmas Donations
December 27, 2011, 10:30 am
In a joint effort with the Salvation Army SAFES House, located in downtown Portland, All About Yarn set out in early November to collect 55 hats and/or scarves for the battered and abused women that live there. If you are not familiar with Portland’s SAFES House, otherwise known as Salvation Army Female Emergency Shelter, it provides a safe and welcoming place for homeless women. Not only does the SAFES House offer these ladies shelter, but they also provide food, a shower, guidance and a friendly face. For more information about this wonderful organization, click HERE to check-out their website. When the SAFES House came to the owner of All About Yarn, RaNaye, with the idea, she immediately loved the project and started gathering up beautiful yarn to donate. She set-up a “knit-an-inch” basket, which encouraged students, staff and customers to sit for a minute and knit an inch on a scarf. It was wonderful to see all the donations pouring in from customers, students and staff.

Well, due to the generosity of you all, we were able to not only meet our goal of 55 items, but we nearly double it–WOW! We send out a heartfelt “thank you” for all your time and effort making not only hats and scarves, but mittens as well! You helped bring a bit of warmth to the bodies and hearts of the women at the SAFES House–a much-needed gift during this season–THANK YOU! The photos you see here are all the wonderful hats, scarves and mittens donated to the SAFES House this Christmas!
